Meditations on Faith
I am drawn to the beauty of New Mexico, and through thunderstorms,
open meadows and treacherous passes, it’s a place where you can truly
understand the difference between loneliness and solitude.
I find myself continually returning for inspiration, clarity
and solace. I start with no preconceived ideas because there is something
special about creating work so personal that everyone can find a way to relate
to it.
Shooting this type of project without help is tough. You get
up before the sun to drink gas station coffee. There are no producers or
assistants. There isn’t a team searching out perfect locations.
The imagery for this project was created solely for the
purpose of inspiration and love of the process. It felt nourishing from the
beginning, and each photograph is more than a record of natural beauty. Within
each image, is a quiet and introspective moment that reflects the solitude of
the work that I’ve done over the years.

That is the best sort of work, Jim....a collaboration of souls, a listening and allowing the energy of the ages to imprint. Shooting like this is a sacred journey and only wisdom can come from that. From crucifixion--suffocating that which no longer serves to resurrection in an evolved being...these are the stories more need to experience. No words can describe their profound beauty nor the effect their presence has on our lives. Grazie! Bellissimo!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karynlee, it is! While I was visiting the pueblos everything seemed fresh and pristine and intensely alive. As I walked around a warm stillness filled my soul. I was no longer defining and characterizing my impressions, my mind was devoid of mental commentary. To this day, I aim to perceive and interact with the world in this way: through stillness, not through mental clatter. The peace that I felt that week hasn’t left me, but I’m not always able to maintain it during my workplace activities
